What's your Favorite Christmas Movie?

It's that time of the year again; carolers are singing, chestnuts are roasting on an open fire, and jack frost is nipping at your nose. It's that time of the year where sitting by a roaring fire with some eggnog is preferable to the chilling cold of winter. Which also makes it the perfect time to settle in and relax with the family and re-watch your favorite holiday classics. While we all know the animated classics, like Rudolph and Frosty, there are many movies that provide you with that same feeling of nostalgia while also providing some comic relief. So tell us: what's your favorite Christmas movie?

Where Christmas Stockings Came From

Back in the day, children in the United States and England, would hang stockings near a fireplace or on their bedpost on Christmas Eve, hoping that it will be filled with toys when they wake up. In Scandinavia, children leave their shoes on the hearth instead of hanging stockings on Christmas Eve. These traditions can be traced back to one story about St. Nicholas, who in order to save three poor sisters from being sold into slaver by their father, paid their dowry. St. Nick left each of the sisters cold coins. The legend goes, that one coin went down the chimney and landed in a pair of shoes left on the hearth. One went through a window into a pair of stockings left hanging to dry by the fire.

Thanksgiving Survival Guide: Top Three Thanksgiving Day Disasters

As relatives begin to swarm, multiple pots and pans start accumulating on the stove, and the turkey is in the oven, it's only a matter of time before something goes wrong. Since it's almost impossible to have a completely fiasco-free holiday, here are some tips to fix even the most direr situation.

Disaster 1: Burnt Turkey
While a burn turkey may seem like the end of the world, Top Chef contestant Ryan Scott has a remedy that could just do the trick. If the bird is burnt on the outside, but uncooked on the inside, the easiest way to save it is to peel off the burnt skin and start anew. To make sure the meat doesn't dry out, smear the uncooked turkey with a mix of butter, garlic and shallots, while also reducing the temperature. It may not look pretty, but it will taste the same and you wont have to admit defeat.

Disaster 2: Undercooked Bird
Getting a perfectly cooked bird, isn't easy. Since it can be tough to make sure the turkey is cooked all the way through, make sure to have a good meat thermometer on hand. If you do notice that the breast meat is cooked while the thigh meat is still pink, don't stress. Simply cut off the cooked portion of the turkey and let it rest while returning the uncooked meat to the oven. Guests can still nibble on some of the bird, while the rest finishes cooking. If the whole turkey is still raw after cooking it—as in, you forgot to turn on the oven—cut the turkey into manageable pieces and roast in two baking pans. It will cut the cooking time in half and save you the trouble of telling your family and friends you forgot to turn on the oven, and the embarrassment.

Disaster 3: Frozen Turkey
Unfortunately it is possible that the Turkey may end up not completely thawed by Thanksgiving morning. Don't stress, the bird just needs a cool bath. Fill the sink with cool water and submerge the turkey, breast side down. Change the water every 30 minutes, and plan on soaking it for 30 minutes per pound of turkey. Once the bird is thawed, if you are short on time, you can always cut the turkey into more manageable pieces before roasting to reduce the time needed for it to cook. Please don’t try to thaw the bird on the counter, unless you want to clean up a mess.

Chevrolet History: The Bowtie Story

The history of the Chevrolet bowtie remains shrouded in mystery as many stories have arisen over the years to the origin of the iconic trademark. While one story suggests that the image came off a French hotels wallpaper while Chevrolet founder, William C. Durant, was visiting others suggest it came about by other means. Durant's daughter is one of the proprietors of a suggested alternate theory. She suggests that her father came up with the idea for the Chevrolet bowtie over dinner.

Margery Durant, in her book "My Father," writes that the name-plate didn't arise off a piece of torn wallpaper from a French hotel, but rather was drawn out by Durant himself. Stating that,

“As in the case of the Buick, my father drew name-plates on pieces of
paper at the dinner table. I think it was between the soup and the fried
chicken one night that he sketched out the design that is used on the
Chevrolet car to this day.”

If this story is true, only Durant knows himself, and the secret of his iconic emblem's origin remains a mystery...

Safe Winter Driving Tips: What to do if you get Stuck.

Getting stuck during winter is a fact of life. If there's rain, snow, sleet, slush and mud in any one given area, chances are your vehicle's tires are going to find a way to get trapped. But don't freight,  follow the steps below and you'll be unstuck in no time.

  1. Do not spin your wheels. This will only dig you in deeper.
  2. Turn your wheels from side to side a few times to push snow out of the way.
  3. Use a light touch on the gas, to ease your car out.
  4. Use a shovel to clear snow away from the wheels and the underside of the car.
  5. Pour sand, kitty litter, gravel or salt in the path of the wheels, to help get traction.
  6. Try rocking the vehicle. (Check your owner's manual first — it can damage the transmission on some vehicles.) Shift from forward to reverse, and back again. Each time you're in gear, give a light touch on the gas until the vehicle gets going.

Winter Car Maintenance Tip: Antifreeze

While everyone tends to panic about flushing and filling their engine coolant before winter, chances are you coolant will be fine for the winter ahead. Since most newer cars are fitted with coolants that can last up to five years, if you follow your vehicles regular maintenance schedule you'll be a-okay.

If, for some reason you missed any required maintenance or have any doubt regarding your vehicles maintenance, it is probably best to flush it and refill it. Also, if you have recently relocated to a colder climate you should most likely switch to a coolant able to handle a deep freeze.

Haunted Roads- Booger Mountain

Booger Mountain, also known as Gravity Hill, is said to be the spot of an unnatural experience. Dating back to the 1800s, the legend goes that two slaves kidnapped, raped, and murdered a young white girl and buried her somewhere unknown. The townspeople then, in anger, hung the two slaves from two oak trees near the edge of Booger Hill. Later, they were buried at the base of the hill, which in the 1800s dubbed as a slave burial ground. It is said that at night, if you leave your car in neutral at the bottom of the hill, the ghosts of the hanged slaves will push your vehicle up hill so you don't disturb their resting place. So be wary, you wouldn't want to disturb the dead.

How to Make Ghoulish Halloween Brain Dip

Halloween is filled with delightful treats, that can sometimes play tricks on your senses. While many ghoulish treats may look unappetizing, they are actually delicious and nutritious. This Halloween, play a trick on your friends senses with this Halloween Brain Dip. Beware, it could cause quite the stir with any of the undead.

  Ingredients:

  • 2 Avocados

  • 1/2 cup prepared Salsa

  • 1 head cauliflower

  • 6 thin slices of red and blue fruit leather

 Directions

  1. Slice the avocados in half and scoop the avocado out of the skin into a medium sized bowl. With a fork, mash the avocado and stir in the salsa. Set aside.
  2. Grab your cauliflower and remove all of the leaves and the stem, leaving a nice hollow area with the outer part of the head intact. If it starts to fall apart, you can use toothpicks to hold it together.
  3. Place the cauliflower into a small bowl, on top of a salsa base, so that the hollow part is facing upwards and most of the cauliflower is exposed. Fill the hallowed out cauliflower with the avocado dip. Decorate the white ''brain'' by weaving thin strands of red and blue fruit leather between the florets to make veins and arteries. If you want the "brain" to look even more terrifying, you can add red food coloring to the cauliflower florets for effect.

Concept Car Spotlight: Chevrolet Nomad

The Chevrolet Nomad Concept car, which was originally inspired by the 1954 Nomad, debuted at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. While the original Nomad was based on the Corvette, the concept vehicle derives its vision from GM's new Kappa rear-architecture-foundation. The Nomad isn't just your average concept car either, its futuristic design makes it hard to categorize making it not another sedan concept, but a unique model all its own. Powered by a turbocharged 210-hp 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, this vehicle is fully loaded and ready to roll.  Hopefully the ideas put forth to make this amazingly unique vehicle will be employed in futuristic Chevrolet models to come.

Chevy's 2014 Corvette Stingray Steering Brand into Luxury Market

In a world where import brands make up almost the entire luxury car market in the United States, the introduction of Chevrolet's all-new Corvette could give them a run for their money. While Chevrolet is predominately known for being a leader within the general vehicle market, this domestic brand is starting to steers itself more into the Luxury vehicle category with the introduction of its 2014 Corvette Stingray. The Corvette Stingray allows vehicle owners to drive a vehicle that has the identical size and weight as a Porsche 911, but with more power per pound of mass with its 460 horsepower and 6.2 liter V-8 engine. Not only does it surpass its luxury counterpart, but encompasses extremely expensive materials traditionally reserved only for the most exotic of European sport cars. Chevy's 2014 Corvette Stingray doesn't just steer Chevy towards the luxury market it puts domestic brand vehicle on the map.

Take a Bite out of Shark Week with Chevrolet's Mako Shark I

Fin-ish Shark Week with a look into Chevrolet's 1961 Mako Shark. Built as a teaser vehicle until the release of the second-generation Corvette in 1963, Chevrolet was able to pull style elements from the carnivorous fish and construct what is today known as the Chevrolet Mako Shark I/ XP-755. Named after a fish caught by Chevy's chief of design, Bill Mitchell, the speedy Mako was equipped with "gills" on the front fenders and a "pointed snout" or hood. If you're not hooked on Shark Week, maybe this vehicle will reel you in!

Road Rage Kills your Gas Gauge

While it's a common practice, road rage or aggressive driving, can generate debilitating affects on your vehicles gas mileage. In one study over aggressive drivers lowered their vehicles miles per gallon by 33 percent. In order to maintain your vehicles MPG and save money avoid rapid acceleration, speeding, and sudden braking-all of which cause your vehicle to loose gas at a rapid rate. A simple rule of thumb is to accelerate your vehicle to the recommended speed limit and then use your vehicles control to maintain a steady speed. This will allow your vehicle to, not only maintain a consistent speed, but save you money at the pump. Without constant acceleration and deceleration, your vehicle outputs a consistent amount of gas, instead of a varying amount.

If you feel that following these simple steps isn't for you, we have plenty of fuel efficent and electric vehicles on our website here: http://bit.ly/PaoLoi

2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray good for up to 30 mpg

With each bit of advance information that trickles out about the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, we can't help but be more amazed and eager to drive it. First, it was announced that the C7 would start at a reasonable-sounding $51,995 and then Chevy revealed the LT1 V8 will generate 455 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, but now we're getting the latest piece of the Corvette puzzle: fuel economy.

Few people buy a Corvette for fuel economy, but recent generations have offered downright impressive consumption figures considering the model's performance envelope. And now owners of the new Stingray Coupe will be able to save a little bit more money at the pump thanks to fuel economy ratings of up to 30 miles per gallon when driven in Eco mode – that's an 11-percent improvement over the C6's already robust number. *EPA window sticker ratings will be 17 miles per gallon in the city and 29 mpg highway when equipped with the standard seven-speed manual gearbox, with the latter figure representing something of an average between the 28 mpg when the car is in Tour mode and the 30 mpg when it is in Eco mode using cylinder deactivation. There is still no word as to what the fuel economy will be on cars with the optional six-speed paddleshift automatic, but at least on paper, this is a big win for the Corvette over key rivals, including less powerful cars like the Porsche 911. Scroll down for more info on the 2014 Corvette Stingray and its fuel economy performance.

Here’s your Car Care Tip of the Week: Clean and Check Your Battery!

Summer heat can speed up the chemical reaction inside a battery, causing the battery to be overcharged. The best way to keep your battery running smoothly is to keep it clean, a paste of baking soda and water can clean it off. Also, regularly detach the battery cables and wipe off the terminals. Make sure the battery is strapped down tightly and that all connections are secure.

New Chevrolet Impala Campaign Features John Legend

Nine-time Grammy Award-winning musician John Legend’s new single, “Made to Love,” is featured in a new Chevrolet Impala marketing campaign which debuts during Game 7 of the NBA Finals on ABC tonight. “Made to Love” is Legend’s newest single from his highly anticipated album, “Love in the Future,” available September 3.

The campaign kicks off with a spot showing Legend drawing inspiration for his music as he drives through the streets of New York City in a 2014 Chevrolet Impala.

“John Legend and one of Chevrolet’s most legendary cars, the Impala, are a powerful combination,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. “Legend’s impeccable style and deep musical accomplishments make him a natural behind the wheel of a car that has demonstrated innovative and smooth style for 50 years.”

Legend claims an authentic connection to Chevrolet and America’s heartland. His first car was a Chevrolet and as a child of the Midwest, Legend has been a vocal supporter and advocate of the resurgence of Detroit and the U.S. auto industry.

“I see a lot of parallels between the renaissance of a classic brand like the Impala and what I try to do as an artist,” Legend said. “I strive to make my music innovative while grounded in a classic style. The Impala is a true classic, yet its understated elegance appeals to me today.”

Spike DDB, Spike Lee’s advertising agency, developed the concept in partnership with award-winning film, music video, and commercial director Anthony Mandler of Believe Media. Together the teams helped Chevrolet and Spike DDB create the ad and accompanying online videos that draw parallels between Legend’s persona and the sophistication of the all-new Chevrolet Impala.

The campaign, which will live alongside the current Impala work, will include radio, print, digital, social media and cinema. It will appear across general market and African American-focused media properties.

Here’s your Car Care Tip of the Week: Make Sure to Check Your Tire Pressure Regularly!

An under-inflated tire bulges outward and puts undo pressure on the sidewalls of the tire. With enough heat and pressure that tire eventually will blow, particularly in hot summer weather. Use the penny trick to see if you still have enough tread on your tires. Stick a penny in the tread, and if Lincoln's head disappears, you're good.

2014 Corvette Stingray does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, 1.03g on the skidpad

When pricing of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was announced back in April, Chevrolet promised that 'Vettes equipped with the Z51 Performance Package would be able to hit impressive figures that include "0-60 mph in under four seconds and more than 1g in cornering," and now it has backed these numbers up. While metrics for a stock Stingray weren't released, checking the $2,800 Z51 box will get you a 0-60 time of just 3.8 seconds and a skidpad number of 1.03g.

Between its 460 horsepower and now its 3.8-second 0-60 time, the Stingray Z51 is positioned directly in between the new Porsche 911 S and Turbo models while costing significantly less than both. In addition to this, Chevy is promising a quarter mile time of 12 seconds and 60-0 braking in just 107 feet.

As an extra little bit of bragging rights, Chevy says that an almost-stock Z51 (with a racing seat, harness and fire extinguisher added inside the car) with Magnetic Ride Control was able to lap the Virginia International Raceway Grand Course in 2:45.78. Wondering how that compares with other known hi-po models? So are we...

Although there are no official VIR lap times to compare against, we did find that FastLaps.com has an unofficial collection of times for the track that places the new Stingray in the number two spot, just behind a 2008 Corvette ZR1. If accurate, that's mighty impressive.

Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel Delivers Classic Muscle Car Torque

Imagine quick off-the-line acceleration reminiscent of a classic muscle car combined with the efficiency of a fuel-sipping compact sedan. Dream on? Believe it. The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel uses a turbocharging feature called “overboost,” but still gets the best highway fuel economy of any non-hybrid passenger car in America.

Cruze Diesel’s turbocharged 2.0L engine delivers a segment-leading SAE-certified 151 horsepower (113 kW) and 264 lb-ft of torque (358 Nm), but overboost can increase torque to 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) for about 10 seconds of stronger acceleration. That’s the equivalent torque delivered by the 1972 Camaro Z28’s heavier 5.7L V8.

Unlike the muscle car era, Cruze Diesel marries that quick burst to a segment-leading EPA-estimated 46 mpg highway, and demonstrated range of 717 miles on one tank of fuel.

“Overboost provides increased performance when the driver demands it, like when passing on the highway,” said Mike Siegrist, GM 2.0L diesel assistant chief engineer. “When the driver leans on the throttle, the turbocharger increases the air and fuel intake over and above what the engine needs for normal torque demand.”

So taking the “muscle” analogy one step further, overboost is to Cruze Diesel as oxidation is to athletes when their muscles use oxygen to break down carbohydrates, fat and protein to produce energy. The more oxygen they take in, the better their performance. Cruze Diesel can sprint from 0 to 60 in about 8.6 seconds – half a second faster than its chief competitor, the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L TDI.

Cruze’s 2.0L turbo-diesel provides greater fuel economy than a comparably sized gasoline engine through greater thermal efficiency, a higher compression ratio and an unthrottled combustion process. It features an iron cylinder block and a forged steel crankshaft, each designed to stand up to the greater cylinder pressures that come with a turbo-diesel engine.

A lightweight aluminum cylinder head and aluminum intake manifold contribute to the engine’s ability to deliver balanced ride and handling.

Turbocharging is an increasingly popular choice with automakers and car buyers. According to LMC Automotive, a provider of automotive forecasts, turbo-charged passenger vehicle production in North America is expected to double by 2018, from 14 percent in 2013 to 29 percent, mainly due to increased diesel production, as well as four-cylinder turbo gas engines replacing V6 engines.

“Cruze’s turbo-diesel engine is powerful, efficient and clean,” Siegrist said. “It will change perceptions of what a diesel car can be while giving customers another fuel-efficient choice in the Chevrolet lineup.”
